Dear Colleagues: (a simpler version)

At early grade levels where the communicative type of learning process is difficult to implement, the restoration of C-tests (separated in the system as individual corpora for grades 2 through 6) becomes the central task for group-based learning. This process may be all there is time for during a typical session. The only other activity I recommend for all early grade levels is the use of our speed test of doing math problems. It remembers each student’s name and encourages him/her to improve the last best time for completing a set of addition problems. A copy of the program is at http://clozeonline.us/M-tablo.htm.

This is the essence of the E:P:N process for youngsters, a process about to be put to task in a 2-phase pilot study, spearheaded by Qian Jiancheng in Zhengzhou, and two others, such as you, during the next full semester.  To be meaningful, we need to have multiples of threes (6, 9, etc.) in on the data-collection process. Please speak up if you wish to be included in one of the first two phases (semester 1 and/or semester 2 starting with the next full year). If you cannot raise the money to furnish at least one E:P:N classroom in your university (for training E:P:N teachers) and one room in a typical primary school (teaching any of the grades 2 through 6, for which I already have the corpora), put yourself on the list of those who wish to participate during the second full year (Phase 3)—the actual study of E:P:N classrooms using C-tests: Do they work better in corporate, private, or scholastic settings?

It is said that any community can find a sponsor if they earnestly seek support, especially, if they ask seeming proton souls, such as Prof. GU, to apply their entrepreneurial skills and lead that portion of the task. Remember:

E = electron, stands for manufacturing or dutiful following (as do electrons in computers)

P = proton, stands for the entire field of entrepreneurial marketing (selling & risk-taking)

N = neutron, stands for anything “eclectic” along with HR development and management

Evolutionary speaking, there is presumed to have been a slow and systematic progression from the simple to the complex. However, in a creative and communicative task-based language-learning environment the integrated and virtually simultaneous effort on the part of all three elements of an atom are at work. Therefore, researchers have strongly recommended that CLL be used as often as possible.

Until recently, workers (electron souls) were seldom consulted about a project. The nucleons (protons and neutrons) always decided what was to be done and the rest were expected to do it, thereby not permitting the need for ownership to mature in those who are motivated by the act of contributing. The E:P:N process asks for the experience-based input from the workers (the electron souls), interpreted by HR specialists (the neutron souls), to help shape a project right from the start.  This, research shows, leads to a project being more clearly understood and more fully supported by all who are affected by it.

More on this later.

Cordially,

Joe Anthony Blum
